many things stimulate, depress, and alter mental states. bottom line is that associating a positive change in mental state to a chemical substance is generally dangerous as it is a catalyst for addiction. associating administration of a drug as a placebo for success is also dangerous because the effect is, partially, synthetic. the relationship between memory and mood is probably more significant than substance administration alone. addressing mood as a cognitive construct is a better path of psychological repair and enhancement and removes the threat of addiction. furthermore, those with a slight understanding of the modern threats of neurotechnology in general may not be aware of the possibility of action and consequence that they do not want as a result of their pursuit of feeling good. this message would obviously be shunned by anyone profiting off of the human tendency for feel good thinking and behavior.
